The moment you notice

Old windows make themselves heard, and make you pay

In the morning there is condensation on the frame, and under the glass the water has already left its mark.

The heating stays on longer but the warmth near the window never arrives.

You close everything and you can still hear the road, the wind, the neighbours.

uPVC exists for exactly this. It is the material that insulates most for the money, asks for no maintenance and, on the coast, has no fear of salt air.

Why uPVC

Three concrete reasons, no waffle

uPVC is the most common choice in houses around here, and not as a fashion: for the same budget it is the material that gives most back.

01

It insulates better than anything else

The profile is hollow and divided into chambers: each chamber is still air, and still air is the best insulator there is. The heat stays in during winter and out during summer.

02

You will never paint it

The colour is in the body of the material, not brushed on top. Nothing to sand down, nothing to repaint every few years the way you do with wood.

Cleaned with water and mild soap

03

By the sea it does not corrode

Here the salt gets everywhere. uPVC is not a metal, so it does not oxidise and does not stain: that is why we fit so much of it in Martinsicuro.

Corrosion-treated hardware

The differences that matter

Not all uPVC is the same

When you compare two quotes, look at three lines. The number of chambers in the profile: more chambers, more insulation. The internal steel reinforcement: without it, over time the sash distorts and the window no longer closes. The glazing: double or triple, low-emissivity, and if you are on a busy road, acoustic laminated too.

These are the three items that make the difference between a window that lasts thirty years and one that needs adjusting constantly after five. On our quote you will find them named, not hidden behind the word 'windows'.

The installation

A window is only worth as much as the fitting

The best profile in the world, put in crooked, whistles and gets condensation. With us, whoever takes the measurements is whoever installs, and at the end we try every sash together before we leave.

Why choose us

The questions you are asking yourself, and our answer

Who comes to fit them?

Our own fitters, not an outside crew. Whoever takes the measurements is whoever installs, so if something does not add up they notice straight away.

And if it does not close properly a year later?

We come back and adjust it. Our premises have been in Martinsicuro since 1990, we do not disappear once the invoice is paid.

Can the price change along the way?

No. After the site visit the quote is the quote. If extra work is needed we find it beforehand, not halfway through the job.

Can I see the profiles in person?

Yes, at Via dell'Industria 10. Holding a cut section of profile clears things up better than ten catalogues.

How long does the work take?

For an ordinary flat you are looking at one or two days of fitting. We cover everything up and clean at the end.

Do you do the rest as well?

Yes: shutters, roller shutters, insect screens, security doors, awnings. One person to deal with for everything that closes your home.

Frequent questions

What people choosing uPVC ask

These are the questions that come up most often, on the phone and on Google.

uPVC or aluminium windows, which is better?

It depends what you need. uPVC insulates more for the same price and is the right choice if the aim is the heating bill and comfort. Aluminium has far slimmer profiles, so more light comes in and it carries large glazing that uPVC cannot hold.

In practice: a flat or an ordinary house, uPVC. Large sliding doors, wide spans or a project where the design matters, thermal-break aluminium. At the site visit we look at your openings and tell you which makes sense, without pushing you towards the more expensive one.

By the sea, is uPVC or aluminium better?

On the coast uPVC has a practical advantage: it is not a metal, so salt air does not attack it. Modern aluminium is anodised and powder coated and holds up well, but it wants more regular cleaning, especially on the hardware.

If the house is a few hundred metres from the beach, as so many are here between Villa Rosa and Alba Adriatica, uPVC is the choice that gives you fewest worries over time.

How much do uPVC windows cost per square metre?

Roughly between 320 and 520 euros per square metre with fitting included. The range is wide because it covers very different things: the number of chambers in the profile, the type of glass, the colour, the opening type and the state of the existing opening.

Be wary of anyone who gives you a price per square metre over the phone without having seen anything: either it is a bait price, or it will go up later.

How long do uPVC windows last?

A good-quality uPVC window, properly fitted, works away happily for 30 years and more. The parts that wear out first are the gaskets and the hardware, and both are replaced without touching the frame.

What really shortens a window's life is not the material, it is a badly done installation.

Pros and cons of uPVC windows

In favour: high thermal and acoustic insulation, no maintenance, an excellent ratio of price to performance, it does not corrode.

Against: the profiles are thicker than aluminium, so the glazed area is a little smaller; on very large glazing it does not carry the load the way metal does; the choice of colours is wide but less free than on coated aluminium.

Do uPVC windows yellow over time?

Good-quality profiles do not. The uPVC used today is UV stabilised and keeps its colour. The yellowing problem concerned the cheap profiles of twenty years ago, and it still concerns the bottom of the range today.

It is one of the reasons we state the brand of the profile on the quote: so you know what you are buying.

How do you clean uPVC windows?

Warm water and mild soap, with a soft cloth. Nothing else. Avoid solvents, alcohol, acetone and abrasive pads, which dull the surface.

A couple of times a year it is worth putting some lubricant on the hardware and clearing the drainage holes at the bottom of the frame, where dust settles.

What is the difference between uPVC and thermal-break aluminium?

The thermal break is an insert of insulating material that separates the inner part of the aluminium from the outer one, to interrupt the thermal bridge. It is needed precisely because metal on its own conducts the cold.

uPVC does not have this problem, because it is an insulator in itself. A good thermal-break aluminium gets close to uPVC performance, but it usually costs more.

Can they be fitted without knocking the wall about?

In most cases yes. If the existing subframe is sound, the new window can be fitted over the old one, with no building work. You lose a few centimetres of daylight but you avoid dust and making good.

If the old frame is rotten or out of square, it is better to remove it. We work that out at the site visit and tell you beforehand, because it changes the price.
